A volatile Australian rock supergroup
Beasts of Bourbon joined musicians from [The Scientists](/bands/the-scientists/), [Hoodoo Gurus](/bands/hoodoo-gurus/) and [The Johnnys](/bands/the-johnnys/) in a shifting line-up built around [Tex Perkins](/artists/tex-perkins/) and [Spencer P. Jones](/artists/spencer-p-jones/).
The first line-up · 1983–1985
The original group brought together Tex Perkins
, Spencer P. Jones
, Kim Salmon
, Boris Sujdovic and James Baker. Recorded live in a single day, The Axeman’s Jazz established their raw mixture of swamp rock, country blues and garage music.
Sour Mash and the Red Eye years · 1987–1993
The original musicians reconvened for Sour Mash and Black Milk. Brian Hooper and Tony Pola later replaced Sujdovic and Baker, and the resulting line-up recorded The Low Road with producer Tony Cohen.
Later returns
Charlie Owen
joined Perkins, Jones, Hooper and Pola for Gone. Further reunions produced Little Animals, while the surviving musicians continued as The Beasts for Still Here and Ultimo.
