Four decades of independent guitar rock
Built around guitarists Kent Steedman and Dave Morris, Celibate Rifles combined fast, hard-edged playing with Damien Lovelock's distinctive voice and lyrics.
From school band to Hot Records
The group began in 1979, with Damien Lovelock replacing original singer Ian Martin the following year. The early EP But Jacques, the Fish? led to a long association with Hot Records and an extensive Australian and international touring life.
Final years
The band continued through several bass and drum line-ups until Lovelock’s death in 2019, after which the remaining members announced that Celibate Rifles would no longer perform.
